“The most important thing in the world is family and love.” –John Wooden

I heard my mum mention to a friend a few days ago that Mr.C and I worked very hard and planned for this adventure very carefully. That was a nice comment but I did realize at that moment that that’s only half the picture.

We could not have done this without our family. No, they were not 100% behind the idea. There was uncertainty, there was worry and there was also disbelief. But they were there for us 150%, every step of the way when we needed their love, support and help.

We couldn’t have managed this trip without our respective parents helping to ensure our children were well taken care of while we worked. They took care of the kids when we needed help the most and enabled a double income household. There was no way we would have made this happen this soon without them, so we thank you, our wonderful parents.

We couldn’t have managed this without our siblings and especially my brother Jit Puru (author, trainer and speaker) being there for us for those times we couldn’t manage by ourselves, when our children were unwell, even enabling us to actually go out and have date nights that brought us closer and let us plan this dream!

This is an interesting moment for this post as well as 2 weeks ago, I had to leave Mr.C with the kids in Lima unexpectedly as my father had an emergency triple bypass in Penang, Malaysia.

“In times of test, family is best” –Burmese proverb

Mr.C managed and continues to manage with the children single-handedly without a single complaint. He encourages me to be the best I can here and he tells me everything is ok. I know our kids and I know how tough it can be at times. I’m lucky to not have to worry about the kids while I focus on my dad. Mr.C is a star.

Every single family member flew right back to Penang to be together during this stressful time. Alone, this would have been hard and taxing. Together, we made it through with laughter and sticking together. This wasn’t a typical family gathering but it was the best company to ask for under such trying times.

My dad is on the road to recovery, and once again this is where family shines. My brother has decided to handle the recovery with my dad so that I can go back to the big dream with my family. It’s not on his shoulder alone but he has taken it on himself.

This dream would not be possible without family.
