6a.m. and the morning light is flooding in to our room which is facing Mount Kinabalu. It’s still very cool outside and the kids are up, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. We are meant to leave Kundasang by 930am at the very latest to make it to the airport by 12pm and on our 1:30pm flight.

“We could enjoy the view from our balcony of course, how much better can it get?” asked Mr.C who was happy to not leave his bed. 6:45am, executive decision made and kids bundled up, we are hurtling out the door to the car to get up to Sosodikon Hill to find out exactly how much better it can get!

What’s a short hike for a view like this?

About Sosodikon Hill
An easy hike that promises a magnificent view, Sosodikon Hill which translates into Pyramid Hill for reasons you will see in the pictures below. It’s a relatively easy hike that would take between 10-15 minutes to get up. The location on Google Maps is accurate! If you can’t do this hill, then you might want to get exercising! Can do you this activity with children? Yes, we did!

What we like about Sosodikon Hill?
The priceless views. The early morning air. The easy hike up that made it a fun first hike for our 4 year old. Devoid of people so it’s just you, the mountain view and the stillness of the morning. The availability of a clean toilet!

What we didn’t like about Sosodikon Hill?
There’s nothing that is not to like here!

 How do you get there?
You can drive all the way to the foot of the hill but the last bit of that is steep gravel so we parked by the main road and walked up for 5 minutes. To reach the main road where we parked included a 15 minute gravel road drive. At the foot of the hill, there’s a little booth to pay the entrance fees of RM3 (<SGD1) per adult. There’s a book to log your names as well, I would do this if I was you although there’s no real check when you exit the place.

 What did this trip cost?
RM3 (<SGD1) per adult. Free for kids!

Was it worth it?
Absolutely!

Now for the pictures!

The start of the actual hike was the toughest ascend!
