I can’t believe people pay for smoothies, that too on average $5.50 a cup! It’s just such a huge rip-off and people don’t realise it. Day light robbery!

Here’s me, breaking it down for you, what goes into the mind-shatteringly simply smoothie. See I love smoothies as much as the next person but I can’t shell out $5.50 per hit.

My homemade smoothies cost a princely $1.60 per cup and it is delish (even if I do say so myself!).

Hey, what’s the secret recipe? Glad you asked! Here goes and the following will yield 3 cups, with the prices according to Redmart where I do my shopping:

  • UHT Full Cream Milk $1.40 – I use a quart so that’s $0.35
  • Farmers Union Greek Style Yogurt $7.80 – again, I use a quart so that’s $1.95
  • 1 spoonful of honey – this probably costs $0.50
  • Sujon Mixed Berries Fruit (Frozen) $10.75 – I use a third so that’s $3.58

What do I do with my ingredients? Chuck ’em into my cheap plastic blender and whiz away! No water, no ice and def no NutriBullet 😉

Voila!

Good. Healthy. Clean. Cheap! At 30% the cost of retail value and that’s not considering the massive concentration of berries + the fact it’s not watered down at all. Took me all of 5 minutes to make and 3 minutes to wash.

Spend wisely folks. Spend on the Peking Duck that you can’t re-create easily 😉

  1. That looks divine! For me, I have a soft spot for avocado milkshakes and they could be pretty costly as well. Sometimes I make them at home and I can make 3 cups for the price of 1!

    1. Oh Avocado Milkshakes are just yummm… I had Jus Apulkat (avocado Shake) in Bali years ago, which isn’t quite a juice per se. Then I learnt how to make it, oh somethings are best not to know what goes in! 😀

Good idea re making it at home, I’ll give it a go. I love everything avocado except the prices 😀
