A bit of a bittersweet feeling when I look at this box on the right column of our blog.
If we had stayed on course, we’d be gearing up for our big trip away. The trip of a lifetime. We’d also be very close to FIRE.
“Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans.”
― Allen Saunders
I remember when we had made the plans for this trip. We threw caution to the wind and simply booked our tickets, giving our FIRE plans a concrete date to work towards. The excitement we had all these years finally culminating into something more tangible than numbers on a spreadsheet.
“Without leaps of imagination or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all is a form of planning.”
― Gloria Steinem
The unexpected can be gloriously wonderful. Never in our 2018 plans did we foresee a drastic change in our lives. Living the Singaporean dream, I’d say, 2 working parents, a helper, a condo and a car. Here we stand though, enjoying what this lifestyle provides and consciously aware that our wanderer dreams remain alive.
But hey, our good friend Warren did say:
“Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”
― Warren Buffett
I would like to think future-us would be very pleased with our decision to put in the extra months of work. So while our current reality is quite different from our expected reality, I think we are better off for it!
Whatever makes the most sense for you guys at this time, is what the plan will be. 🙂
Hahah spot on 🙂 There’s just no one right answer, ask me the same question on a different day and my answer might be quite different. Thoughts and plans develop around life that continues to develop around us.
