“If your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough”

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

Our dreams are absolutely making us scared right about now! In a good way. We’ve always dreamt of what it would be like to have our children in school for half the day and both of us would be able to put all our energy and creativity into building a business that would make a change. In fact, that was one of the most vivid dreams we had for the future of ourselves when we started the FI journey.

That dream is coming true, right now! I can’t even begin to convey how excited we are! We have both our kids enrolled in school over here at Playa del Carmen for a minimum of 2 months, a decision we made overnight which is just about the same time as we took to decide to stay here for a month initially.

We are bouncing off the walls with a business idea that we’ve been speaking about for close to a month now. We’ve engaged a consultant in the technology space to work with us for no charge at this point, which means either the idea is astounding OR because he’s my brother. Perhaps it’s both. Let’s go with both!

Why does the dream scare us? It’s a big step for us really. To embark on a business idea this big. To decide to set up some roots here in Mexico, even if it is only for 2 months. To send our kids to school locally. In fact, it’s Coco#2’s first time to go to school. He’s crazy excited. He told me yesterday when I asked him how did he feel about school – “Don’t hit the kids, right mummy, right? Only the bad guys, right mummy, right?” Yep, I think he’s ready.

This decision comes with the monetary impact as well. Sending both kids to school here is hitting our budget in a big way. There’s a lot to benefit from this decision, no doubt.

So much that we didn’t even bother considering the Pros of the decision and only the Cons.

  • We are spending 2 months in ONE spot, taking our travel time away from covering more of this wonderful world
  • We are spending a fair bit on schooling which we could put towards the original plan, traveling!

But we’ve always dreamt of this and if we don’t pursue this, then it will always be just that. A dream.

So here we are now. Money down for the school and the apartment for 2 months. We’re absolutely convinced of our entrepreneurial idea. We’re passionate about the field and the change it will make. I can’t reveal too much yet but we will as soon as we can so send us some good vibes and stay tuned.

On a sidenote, this is yet another perk that being semi-FI affords you. The ability to throw yourself into your dreams and work to make it a reality. If it works out, fabulous! If it tanks, then you’ve gained experience. Win-win! So once again, stay tuned folks and as always we appreciate you taking your time to read our blog.
