The SC Household has discovered the gastronomic joys of having pizza nights! It started on one sunny day when Ms.K decided to conquer her fear of making a pizza base from scratch. It was fueled by a 2 ingredient pizza base recipe she had read.

The success of that night gave her the confidence boost she needed to do a traditional pizza base, so she called on her buddy Jamie Oliver to supply a fool-proof recipe. Jamie rarely ever disappoints.

Letting the dough sit back and chill
Give it a punch and you’ll know it’s ready

There on, everything was game. The toppings, the entire family getting involved in making the pizza and eating it fresh from the oven one by one. Pizza nights was such a success, the SC household has been having Pizza Parties!

RESPECT THE PIZZA

Jamón from Barcelona + Rocket
Slap some pineapple on and it becomes a Hawaiian
Seriously Spicy Chorizo
Real Crab Meat Pizza
The Hawaiian-Leftovers Pizza – Chorizo, Pineapple, Mozzarella Chunks + Capers

All of that, made from scratch in our kitchen. Yummo!

But Mozzarella is expensive! That’s what a colleague of mine quipped in response to me sharing pizza night pictures enthusiastically. Sure hun, let’s talk numbers.

A good pizza costs $20 on a modest average, and it would not be as generous a helping of the toppings as ours. We made 6 pizzas that night, so even taking the average of $20 without considering the fact ours was heavier with the good stuff, that should have been $120 if eaten outside.

What did ours set us back by?

Ingredients SGD
Jamon           8.00
Tomato paste           1.30
Mozzarella Pear Cheese           6.30
Pizza Plus Grated Cheese           8.10
Chorizo           6.00
Pineapple Chunks           2.45
Baby Leaf Rocket           3.95
Capers           0.53
Capsicum           0.65
Tomato           0.33
Crab Meat           2.28
Seasonings / Olive Oil           2.00
Pizza Dough Cost           2.00
Total         43.88

* You can substitute the jamon with parma ham, we had ours brought over by a friend from Barcelona.

So yea, mozzarella is expensive but not as expensive as eating out 😉

(Am completely side-stepping the discussion on the time and effort, balance that our with the fun and joy of making home-made pizzas with family and friends. It’s a family activity that costs us nothing more!)
