Almost everyone we speak to seems to be heading to Japan for the holidays! Unfortunately for us and fortunately for our savings, Japan isn’t on the cards this year! Are you in the same bucket? Well, this might help then!
Welcome to my guide on how to have a fun-filled school holiday without breaking the bank. We all know how expensive it can be to keep your kids entertained for an entire week or two, so I’ve come up with a few ideas that are cheap, easy, and guaranteed to provide hours of entertainment. The pictures in this post were from the school holidays in March.
Painting the house
Who says painting the house has to be boring? Get your kids involved by turning it into a fun activity. Let them choose the colors and give them each a brush to help out. Not only will you have a freshly painted house, but you’ll also have some quality family time. But if you really want to go wild, then let them draw on the walls. My gosh, it worked a treat – the joy on their faces and absolute silence for hours on end while they laboured away proudly at their respective walls, talking to each other and listening to their music playlist.
Having friends over
Nothing beats having friends over for a playdate. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to entertain them. Just set up some board games, make some popcorn and fruits, and let the kids have a blast. That’s another afternoon done and dusted!
Cycling and playing by the beach
Head to the beach with your bikes and a frisbee or ball and spend the day riding and playing. You don’t have to spend money on expensive activities. Just pack some snacks and drinks and have a fun-filled day with your family. Again, this has never failed!
Baking
Who doesn’t love some freshly baked treats? Get your kids involved in the kitchen by whipping up some simple treats like cookies, cupcakes, or muffins. Play some music, be silly and have fun. Not only will you save money by baking at home, but you’ll also have some delicious snacks to enjoy. Kids absolutely love this! Be warned though, any attempt at cooking with kids generally triples the amount of time required!
Special date with parents
Sometimes, it’s the little things that count. Set up a special date with your kids, like going for a picnic in the park or having a movie night at home. While you could take them out to a restaurant, just remember that spending quality time with your kids doesn’t have to be expensive, and they’ll appreciate the effort you put in to make it special and that time together. The rest is all just marketing, how you market it to the kids!!
So there you have it, folks – five easy and cheap ways to spend the school holidays without breaking the bank. Who says you need to spend a fortune to have fun? Get creative and have a blast with your family and friends. Happy holidays while we jet off to Japan this round, AM JOKING!
