If you’ve been following our blog, you’ll know that I don’t dive too deep into the nitty-gritty metrics of our site. I write because I enjoy it, and it’s always a pleasant surprise when I see the little notification from Google AdSense telling me that we’ve made a whopping $1.30 for the month! Exciting, right? It’s easy to please your favourite Coconuts!

So, let’s jump into some quick numbers. Our total estimated earnings this year? A grand total, an absolute princely sum of…….. $18.57. Boom! Thank you for the applause, really, you are too kind.

The highest we hit in a single month was April, with a princely sum of $3.22 (what was I writing about then??). September and October saw our blog mostly dead, as I was back at work and juggling…life, and therefore were our true passive income months—bringing in around $0.30 monthly.

I wanted to share our top pages with you, but thanks to Google AdSense excluding low-earning pages, the report came back empty! Oh well, thanks for the laugh, Google AdSense.

Now, let’s talk about ad performance by country. Unsurprisingly, Singapore takes the lead, being our home base, and our content has a local flair that’s picked up by a local blog aggregator. Shoutout to Australia, coming in at a strong second—must be the family and friends supporting us from Down Under. As for the US, maybe because the FIRE movement is strong there? Who knows! To all our readers around the world, thanks for tuning in; please spread the word! We could use some extra funds for our favorite treat, a Chicken Rice feast.

Now, let’s talk about those other metrics – you know, the ones that could potentially make someone’s eyes glaze over but are apparently crucial for the monetization maestros out there. Frankly, they were as thrilling as watching paint dry for me. I’m in it for the joy of crafting words, not drowning in a sea of statistics. So, I did what any sane writer would do – I picked out some fun visualisations from Jetpack 😀

Behold, the views and visitors over the last year. Notice the spike in March, April, and May? Ah, yes, those were the days when I was writing every week. Maternity leave gave me the time to pursue my passions, including writing. So, the saying is true: Consistency drives increased earnings.

Let’s dive into the top pages of this year. I particularly love the ABBA’s Money Meltdown?! – The Rich Really Do Get Richer post — it not only makes me hum a happy tune instantly but, dare I say, it’s good writing too! Maybe a bit whingy? Not the intent! Happy to see that The Regret Minimization Mindset: Making Decisions to Avoid Future Regret is up there, it’s such a big life principle for us and a total game-changer in how we approach things. Equally pleased to see the 101 post up there too, Starting on FIRE – Everyone Can Benefit!, hopefully that ticks the inner desires to help influence more people for deeper introspection and a deliberate life!

And here’s a peek at the top pages of all time since we started blogging! Surprisingly, my advice to my 21-year-old self takes the crown in Happy Birthday Ms.K & 5 Things I Wish I Could Tell Myself When I Was 21 — maybe it was the image, which I had to change due to a copyright infringement. Lesson learned! Now, I only use our own pics or Creative Use Licenses. Or maybe, just maybe all of you really are excited about my birthday!!!! Hehe…anyway, coming in second and third are posts related to freebies and LiveUp—clearly, my audience knows their priorities and I know my demographic. Those one-off posts of that nature are behind me as I don’t have the time or the interest to get the best deal out there anymore so I am totally not updated on the ways of the money-savvy world! I write what I want and the audience for it will find it’s way, albeit a smaller pool at times.

I like this visual because, well I think you might have realised, productivity is one of those things that make my heart sing –> remember this post – Confessions of a Serial Do-er: How My Need for Productivity Might Ruin My Early Retirement Dreams?! Yup, that’s the one. I’m also that person who finds immense motivation in streaks, habits, and stars, so topping off more of this monthly visual is high up on the list for next year’s goals now. Then again, there’s this delightful dilemma – I’m torn between boosting productivity and relishing in the sheer joy of just being. It’s a bit of a conflict, I admit, but they say balance is the key, right? Elusive equilibrium, I’m looking at you!

Is Blogging Worth It?

I’m certain that, for some, it’s a resounding yes – a tangible return on investment. For some, it serves as a platform to share views, perhaps influence others, and therefore it is worth it! As for us, the monetary aspect is a sweet bonus. Witnessing those bits of money trickle in from something we do purely for the joy of writing and fun is indeed gratifying. Is it a salary for our efforts? Nah, we’d be writing regardless. But would we love for it to contribute more to our income? Absolutely!! 😀

Ok – key question time. How much has the blog made us since we got started way back, way back? I felt like I wrote a post before on how much we made, but I can’t find it! Nevermind that, we cashed out a staggering $186 sometime in the past, and currently we have $31.98 (2 cents more!!) lingering and waiting for more funds to keep it company (keep reading folks, it helps the Chicken Rice fund!).

So What are the Future Plans for the SippingCoconuts Blog?

The crystal ball says that first up on the agenda: a makeover for the entire site. It’s gotten a tad cluttered for my taste, and I’ve been itching to give it a fresh, snazzy look. I’m no web design wizard (clearly), but I do enjoy tinkering around. Time, however, is a mischievous trickster, playing hard to get.

And as I alluded to in a recent post – I’ve got some literary mischief up my sleeve. Book 1 is on the horizon, and guess what? It brought a friend along – say hello to Book 2! In a moment of self-proclaimed brilliance (or madness, take your pick), I’ve already started laying down the foundations for a completely different take on FIRE. So, stay tuned for more adventures in the written realm as I share snippets of the work-in-progress.

But wait, there’s more! 2024 is shaping up to be a year of excitement, surprises, and, of course, more tales from our quirky corner of the internet. All to be revealed in due time and I think as readers, you’ll be thrilled on the upcoming content. SO VAGUE, I know! Soon, soon, I promise!

With that, we thank you, cherished readers, for your unwavering support, delightful engagement and our Chicken Rice Feast Fund– here’s to a year-end filled with warmth, joy, and endless inspiration! 🌟📚💖
