I was scrolling through Twitter a few days ago when I came across this:
The number of people giving arbitrary figures like 10% etc is astounding. You don't even know his net worth!!! 😒 https://t.co/FpIRIbBIOM

Btw, follow us today on Twitter or Instagram if you haven’t already. We post and interact there quite frequently. 🙂

Now first of all, I don’t think it is a good idea to solicit advice for things like this from strangers on the internet.
Secondly, if you do want well thought out advice, you need to give more information dude.
Thirdly (is this a word?), why are people giving him arbitrary numbers like “spend 10% of your net worth” without even knowing anything about his situation, financial and otherwise?! Okay, I take it back. 10% of your net worth is never the right answer!
I can totally understand answers like “as little as possible” and “0%” because that’s pretty much what a frugal person would do and it applies regardless of a person’s financial situation. How much did you spend on your wedding?
Well, in our case….our weddings (yes, plural…see related post here…coming up soon;) ) actually did not cost that much because we didn’t splurge and book a fancy hotel to host our guests nor did we spend any money printing wedding cards, for eg.. Having some hindsight, we would now also ditch more things like the “pre-wedding” photo shoot but would spend more on items that would enhance or capture the experience more.
How much should a person spend on their wedding?
Our view is that it depends on the wishes of the couple.
However, the couple should keep in mind that at the end of the day, all those things that some people say are a must like fancy wedding favours, or a photo booth, or a glitzy venue, or serving expensive food…are forgotten in no time at all. (Unless you’re British royalty or like super duper rich….then go all out and do your part for the economy please. :p)
Actually, what we remember with the most fondness is the honeymoon/party we had in Koh Samui, Thailand with our bunch of friends the day after the wedding. That’s priceless.
