Time for a highly-spirited post with a sprinkling of fun to it. I like selling stuff and I’m pretty good at it, I sold 5 umbrellas at a go so I can sell anything really! I like looking for deals and the freebies that I can sell. I like putting my ‘clean-up’ hat on and selling the good stuff we are not using to give it a new lease of life. It doesn’t make me rich but it gives me a little fun scouting for deals and looking for buyers. The little “pocket money” I get is pretty sweet too.

I’ve had a pretty busy first 3 months and mostly unintentional as I stumbled across these deals in my normal course of activities and saw the opportunity to make a quick buck. I don’t think the rest of the year will see this much activity but who knows!

Meyer Air Fryer & 30cm Neoflam Stainless Steel Wok – courtesy of Nespray

Nespray had a promotion in January 2018 which saw us spending $196 on Nestle products to received both of the above. I had no issues doing so, these are products I buy anyway – Decaf Nescafe Gold and Nespray Full Cream Milk. In addition to that, Nespray Full Cream Milk was having a discounted price to buy 2 packs and receive 1 pack free promotion as well at about $23 for 3x600g packs, usual price for 1x600g pack is $12; 1×1.8kg is $35. So double promotion and the expiry date is well within our consumption capability!

Meyer 1.7l AirFryer

I sold the Air Fryer for $35 and the Neoflam Wok for $25 (this was cheap for the convenience of selling it to a colleague and not having to carry it back from office to home).

Made a decent $60 all in all. Love it!

Philips Hairdryer

Usually, I do almost all my shopping on Redmart and do not frequent Fairprice. I let the fresh vegetable purchases in Fairprice to be handled by Mr.C. One fateful weekend, we went as a family and that turned out to be a good stroke of luck as a Loreal promotion caught my eye. 2 bottles of Loreal 700ml shampoo being sold at $21 and with a free Philips Hairdryer. The cost of the shampoo, per bottle, is already $13.90 so getting two bottles at $21 is a good deal. Throw in a free hair dryer and this has just become a fantastic deal!

This again is money I would have spent anyway as it is the brand of shampoo I am using! Snapped up 3 boxes and subsequently sold the 3 hair dryers in the space of 5 days at $20 each.

The hairdryer deal was one of the best deals yet!

Once again, $60 made or 2018’s shampoo cost for me is almost free 🙂

BLUM Orgaline Cutlery

We received 2 sets of this high end cutlery organizer which retails for about $80 each, thereabouts. We do not need such fancy-schmancy cutlery organizers in household, declared the Queen of house and that too something tucked in a drawer that is out of sight, without adding significant value to our lives. We are all for paying for quality where it matters and here, we sat on it for a bit and tried hard however failed to see the value in having this in our household. It proved hard to sell at a higher price and I wanted the space in the condo back so I did a quick deal to sell both for $75.

I see you shining so brightly and I see $$$

What are we using instead? Something functional and cost us less than a pack of chips.

Ah that’s more like it!

Hello, $75!

Poker Chip Carousel

Sold this for a nice $35 as our childish gambling days are behind us, we use real money now. I kid, I kid. We now have kids and can’t gamble away their college funds. Again I kid. The truth is, we’re busy keeping the household quiet when the kids are asleep to lengthen their down-time and no cards sessions is without a hoot! This was actually a gift and has been rarely used then was chilling around the multiple houses we have moved to over 6 years, collecting dust.

Interesting story here that might resonate with investing which is summed up by the question – what is your holding power? I put this up for sale and was low-balled for it a few times. Some took a downright piss and asked to make a deal at $10. Pfft, no thank you. I’m in no hurry, I’ve holding power baby! When the right deal came I was more than willing to let this beauty go. Are your finances structured so you can hold out for the right price and the right time?

Made a gain of $35!

Along with these note-worthy shenanigans, I’ve made some random $10 transactions selling random stuff here and there in the interest of getting it out of the house. Just on the ones I mentioned above, we had an upside of $230. Individually, these things don’t seem like much but when you add it up, it does become a nice lil sum.

Perspective – what is $230? That’s half half our monthly groceries when it’s just the core family.

Care to get up to some shenanigans? 🙂
