It’s a month since we started our adventure of a lifetime! We are writing this from San Cristobal, Galapagos! I can’t believe we are here, on Galapagos! The wildlife and the beaches are just so beautiful!
The internet has been pretty shaky since we left Europe to South America and we’ve also been quite full on so we’re behind on giving updates on the blog, no doubt. It’s only been a month since we started this phenomenal adventure however it has been an absolutely staggering! If you follow us our Instagram, then you’ll see some rad pics!
This is what we have done to date.
We flew from Singapore to Lisboa via Frankfurt. Portugal gave us such an kicking start to the trip that at time we quite miss Portugal! Read about our Lisboa (Luscious Lisboa and Great Food in Lisboa) and Porto trip and you might understand why we love Portugal so much!
Next stop, Barcelona baby! We flew there specifically for the La Merce 2019, the largest street party in Barcelona. It has religious origins as it is held to observe the Roman Catholic feast day of Our Lady of Mercy, La Mare de Déu de la Mercè. It’s the first time we’re attending a festival in Spain and it’s true to it’s reputation, Spaniards love to party. The entire city was on party mode! It’s quite a different experience than our previous trip to Barcelona that we absolutely loved. Perhaps it’s the fact that we are both not working now so we are mindful on spending? You laugh, but it’s true! Read about our whirlwind Barcelona adventure at La Merce Madness (coming!).
We didn’t plan for our trip in Spain to be 4 days! Due to the floods in the south of Spain, we had to change our plans! Very reluctantly, we had to completely do away with our Sevilla dreams (1 month in Sevilla!) and instead bring forward the South American dream by a month! We booked flights to Quito, Ecuador 4 days before flying off!
Quito is a UNESCO world heritage city and sits in the Andean foothills at 2850m. It’s most popular because it is built on the foundations of the ancient Incan city although at the moment of writing, it’s making headlines for protests against the removal of fuel subsidies. It’s a mad time to be in Quito!
We’ll write more on Quito in a separate post however here’s a picture of our favourite activity! We enjoyed taking the Telerefiqo ( a play on the word teleferico which is Spanish for cable car and Quito) up to 4050m. The Teleferiqo is the longest aerial lifts in the world! We were chuckling at how in such a short ride (18 minutes thereabouts), we were at 4050m whereas Mr.C and I spent 6 days hiking to 4130m! A short hike up after and we were treated to the most amazing swing in the world.
That leads us to where we are right now, Galapagos! I’m writing this post from the beach on Playa Mann on San Cristobal, it’s our free day to chill with the kids and enjoy the island for what it is. Truth be told, the water is freezing cold and we’re not keen on being ice pops! Look out for the post on Galapagos soon!
